JAMAICA RENTER & HOST GUIDE

Pickup tips, photo check-in & driving in Jamaica.

How peer-to-peer car sharing works on MyRyde—from licence verification and payment choices to meeting your host, documenting the car and navigating Jamaica’s roads.

1

Verify your driver’s licence once

Before your first trip, you’ll upload your valid driver’s licence and complete quick identity verification in the MyRyde app. Hosts can see that you’re a verified driver before approving your booking request.

2

Choose how you want to pay

Depending on the vehicle and host settings, you can either pay fully in the app by card, or pay the base rental amount in cash at pickup while paying applicable platform fees in the app. Available payment options are clearly shown on the booking screen before you confirm.

3

Understand the security deposit

A refundable security deposit hold (up to US$500 depending on the listing) protects the vehicle during your trip. Provided the car is returned on time and in the same condition, the deposit hold is released automatically after check-out.

The 5-minute photo check-in checklist

Both the driver and the host complete photo check-in and check-out right inside the MyRyde app. It protects both sides from any misunderstandings.

  • Meet in a clear, well-lit location: After your booking is accepted, use in-app chat to agree on a convenient pickup spot—such as a shopping plaza in Kingston, Montego Bay or Ocho Rios.
  • Walk around the exterior together: Capture clear photos of all four corners—front bumper, rear bumper, driver side, passenger side, roof, windscreen and tyres.
  • Log the fuel level and odometer: Snap a photo of the dashboard showing mileage and the fuel gauge so you know exactly what level to return it at.
  • Note any existing scratches up front: Close-up photos taken during check-in are timestamped in the app so pre-existing wear is never mistaken for trip damage.
  • Repeat at check-out: When handing back the keys, complete the check-out photos in the app to close the trip and trigger your deposit release.
